SEARCHCAM was the first and is still the finest technical search system to extend the rescuers best search senses (vision and hearing) into the voids of collapsed structures and inaccessible locations.

Locate the victims of building collapses by searching the voids where live victims are most likely to be trapped. The Searchcam Victim Location System is designed to enter a void space through a hole as small as 1.75" (4.4 cm) in diameter, allowing the rescuer to extend his eyes and ears into the void space to find the victim. The Searchcam is fast, accurate and is the only search device that can precisely locate the victim.

On screen system status graphics insure that the operator can monitor the system without diverting either sight or attention from the search task. Graphic symbols and bar graphs indicate the position of the camera head, the relative gain on the search microphone when activated, the relative intensity of the illumination when activated, the activation of the push to talk, and the battery reserve level. Most important in a video search is knowing the orientation of the camera; knowing where you are looking. The camera head positioning is indicated via a bar graph at the bottom of the screen.
Movement of the camera head and the relative position from center are indicated in 15° increments; thereby, facilitating the operator’s mental orientation of where the camera is pointing when searching a void. Flashing symbols indicate when the camera head has reached the articulating limits (left and right). Additionally, orientation is assisted by an automatic stop at center when panning the camera head; the articulation switch must be released and then depressed again to move past center position. The camera head automatically returns to center when the system is turned off, thereby facilitating the extraction of the system from a void.
